Dub Elements – Hey! / Like This – DEM Recordings

For nearly a decade, Seville based duo Dub Elements have not just been chiselling a place within the drum & bass trophy cabinet, but also within the fields of dance music promotion and events. Their swift rise to the top of the European market, alongside many of the scene’s founding individuals, has meant that they’d already earned their stripes before launching their label DEM Recordings. The imprint signified a changing point for Dub Elements; after releasing on heavyweight platforms such as Eatbrain and Viper, they decided to give themselves full artistic integrity, manufacturing their compulsive beats and unforgiving slices of bass into parcels for their biggest project to date.

Although it’s not just in the studio that Dub Elements have made a name for themselves. Their exclusive events brand has also brought some of the most sought after names to their hometown. Their ‘Dub Elements & Friends’ nights have given a pedestal for forthcoming releases on DEM Recordings and this next single from the pair demonstrates why their DJ sets have become notorious. Whether it’s playing alongside the likes of Cypress Hill, Justice, Orbital or Gorillaz, whilst detonating their sonic artillery across the global circuit, including SPACE Ibiza and the iconic UK festival Creamfields, they’ve caused widespread devastation. These two records will wield the same power.

‘Hey!’ powers you through an intro of crackling bass, shaking sub patterns and clattering drums, with its ragga-like sample presenting a call-to-arms against the mix. It’s an anthem, one which slams its way into a DJ set and fully commands any space it’s dropped within. Dub Elements go full throttle on ‘Hey!’, nodding to the unique power of running an independent platform like DEM Recordings.

‘Like This’ is more minimal in its roll out, with its percussion zig-zagging throughout the mix as you become acutely aware of the pair’s incredible production standard. Once again, Dub Elements go for the jugular, although the weapon this time is their expertly crafted, low lying bassline. It’s an explosive package and both tracks push a sound which is inherently Dub Elements. They channel the party vibes which make their own nights so unforgettable.

Since storming onto the D&B music scene in early 2009, Seville based duo Dub Elements have swiftly merited a reputable and solid name for themselves from the start: With their distinctly unique sound which boasts infectious bass hooks, compulsive beats and slices & bleeps, this bass-duo quickly caught the ears of certain big names into of the scene such as Chris Renegade & Spor (aka Feed Me) who helped spread the gospel and gain support including “Vandals” in one of their massive Lifted Music Podcasts.

Shortly thereafter, Gareth, the boss & owner of the Dutch label Prspct snapped them up to release their “Bass up to the Tope EP” with a big hit called “Popim”, prompting the band to embark on the Prspct Agency with a widely successful schedule of gigs under their belt, recruiting legions of hardcore fans across Europe underground scene with their formidable & energetic shows, securing them as one of the most sought after breakthrough acts in D&B scene, including appearances in festivals & clubs as Florida 135, Prspct XL, Dance Parade Rotterdam, I. Copera, Therapy Sessions, Row 14, Summer Festival, La Cova, Klubbers Day, MountainBass, Viñarock, Sunny Day, Razzmatazz, Creamfields …

An this summer 2012 they performed at “Beat & Raw”, the newest & spectacular party of Ibiza, it hosted at the legendary SPACE Ibiza (perhaps the best club of the world, if we see all its awards), with Dub Elements billed alongside international artists including Cypress Hill, Justice, Orbital, Gorillaz, Front 242, among many others.

The Spanish duo have created a whirl of dancefloor anthems released on a wealth of top notch D&B and Breaks labels including Algorythm, Hardcore Beats, Lot49, Big Riddim, Plasmapool and signed on ROTTUN, the label of the Canadian Dubstep monster Excision.
