Benny Page & MC Spyda – Battlefield (Sublow Hz Remix)

2007 was certainly a while ago, however, the infectious ‘Battlefield’ lyrics from Spyda still ring in every self respecting junglists ears. One of the big anthems from the era and originally released via Shy FX’s Digital Soundboy imprint, it guaranteed dance floor mayhem across the world. Into 2020, Benny drops a brand spanking new remix of his cult classic on his Dub Shotta label, bringing onboard Sublow Hz to the production desk.

Taking the legendary vocals, stripping everything back and focusing on a lead note makes this version of ‘Battlefield’ somewhat of a different beast. Gone are the crunchy breakbeats and distorted leads, replaced with bright and sparse kicks and snares which in some respects, gives more breathing space to the track. It’s still one for the lighter crew, bunnin’ down the dance, still one for the head nodders and STILL one for the vocal appreciation society.

Sublow Hz are certainly a combination of studio wizards to watch out for in 2020. Be it original production or remixes, it’s fair to say they can lend their many hands to everything and anything. Tipped on the highest levels by Benny Page, the anticipation for future releases doesn’t come much higher.

‘Battlefield’ remix is no doubt a huge release with a big vocalist that really has stood the test of time. 30 plus years in the game and Spyda still pulls out the memorable lines.

‘Battlefield’ is a classic junglist anthem given an upgrade of modern production standards and new life breathed into it by Sublow Hz. Back in the day it was more about the vibe than the production level. The beauty in this case is that it has kept the vibe of the original and has that clean stripped down sound that really brings out the vocals of a classic MC in the legendary Spyda. Truly paying homage to the Benny Page original. The snares hits are clean and crunchy and that warped sub is masterful. Crisp reggae rhythm guitars and a touch of a deep arp pad at the fill. Keyboards that keep you bouncing all day. This one is bound to revive a classic anthem and keep it moving into the future.
